A cottage garden reimagined
Client brief
The original garden in Midhurst was dominated by straight lines and a simple lawn. The clients wanted a complete restyle of the space with new hard landscaping, while taking on the planting themselves.
Both passionate and highly knowledgeable about plants, they asked for a garden framework that would complement their planting plans. Our role was to reshape the garden, introduce softer forms, and create a calming focal point with water.
Design objectives
Softening the layout
- Replace rigid straight lines with sweeping curved borders to introduce flow and natural movement into the garden design.
Water feature
- Incorporate a gentle, babbling water feature to provide sound, texture, and a sense of calm.
Framework for planting
- Deliver a versatile structure of paths and borders that would allow the clients to showcase their deep plant knowledge and creativity.
Our plans
The finished garden
A once rigid and linear lawn garden is now full of shape, movement, and personality. The babbling water feature adds sound, interest, and a focal point visible from multiple angles. The clients now have the perfect canvas for their planting ambitions, with space and structure designed to highlight their choices. This garden is now a plant-lovers' dream.
