From vision to 'Magical garden'

Client brief

Our clients approached us through a recommendation, seeking not just a landscaper, but someone who could guide them from concept to completion. They had a simple vision: a peaceful, welcoming garden where they could unwind with a drink in hand - but needed expert input to turn that vision into reality.

Here's what the garden looked like before we started:

Design approach

We began with an in-depth consultation to understand their preferences, lifestyle, and love of nature. The client also shared their initial drawing and ideas for the garden:

While keeping their core ideas in mind, we developed a creative, detailed design that went far beyond expectations. Every element - from plant selection to seating layout - was planned to capture sunlight, withstand wind, and provide year-round visual interest.

Wildlife attraction was a priority. Carefully chosen plants and flowers were positioned to invite birds, bees, and butterflies into the space, bringing it to life in every season. Here's the plan:

The transformation process

Design & planning

  • Detailed computer aided 3D designs and drawings with planting schemes were produced.

Groundworks & construction

  • Precision-built pathways, borders, and structural features.

Planting & finishing touches

  • Layered planting for texture, colour, and biodiversity.

Before  v  After

The change was dramatic: what began as a plain, functional space is now a sanctuary; a calm, inviting, and richly detailed garden that reflects both artistry and craftsmanship.

30 tonnes of very stoney, nutrient poor subsoil was removed and 18 tonnes of ameliorated premium soil added to give the plants a good start.

Key features of the finished garden

  • Wildlife-friendly planting to encourage biodiversity.
  • Optimised layout for sunlight, shade, and wind protection.
  • Bespoke seating areas for relaxation and entertaining.
  • Seasonal colour planning for year-round interest.
  • Attention to detail in both construction, soil and planting.

A note from Richard:

I have enjoyed this project immensely. Most of this is down to providing a space to relax and entertain in for a couple that have now become good friends.
